California Slurry Seal Contractors

Use this page to find contractors who apply slurry seal, a mixture of fine aggregate, asphalt emulsion, water, and additives spread as a thin surface course. It rebuilds a wearing surface that sealcoating alone cannot, while costing far less than an overlay. This page lists slurry seal contractors serving California, organized by city below.

Slurry Seal FAQs

How is slurry seal different from sealcoating?

Sealcoating is a coating that protects the existing surface; slurry seal contains aggregate and lays down a new thin wearing surface. Slurry seal can restore texture and skid resistance on pavement too worn for sealer to help, and it typically lasts longer, but it costs more and requires specialized equipment.

Is slurry seal a substitute for an overlay?

No. Slurry seal is a surface treatment with no structural value. If the pavement is failing because of a weak base, poor drainage, or extensive alligator cracking, slurry seal will look better briefly and then fail with the pavement underneath it. An overlay or reconstruction addresses those problems; slurry seal does not.

Why is it hard to find a slurry seal contractor?

The work requires a continuous-mix slurry machine, which is a substantial piece of dedicated equipment. Many contractors who list slurry seal among their services subcontract it. Asking whether a contractor owns the machine is the fastest way to learn who actually performs the work.

How long does a lot stay closed after slurry seal?

It varies with mix design, temperature, and humidity, and your contractor should give a specific figure for your job and conditions. Plan on staged closures for a lot that cannot shut down entirely, and confirm the schedule in writing before work starts.

Before you hire: The Pavement Directory does not guarantee contractor performance, pricing, licensing, insurance, or availability. Business information may be submitted by contractors or gathered from public sources and should be independently verified before hiring. Always confirm licensing, insurance, references, scope of work, and written contract terms.
