Some companies do both under one roof, and others specialize in one and subcontract the rest. Which you need depends on whether the pavement has failed structurally or is simply wearing. Asphalt paving and repair contractors handle potholes, patching, dig-outs, full-depth repair, and replacement of failed pavement. Concrete contractors handle curbs, gutters, walkways, and pads. Where the problem is water rather than pavement, a drainage and sitework contractor may be involved. Many commercial paving companies self-perform several of these scopes, so confirm what each company actually performs rather than subcontracts.
Some paving companies self-perform striping, while others subcontract it to a striping specialist. Both arrangements are common and neither is inherently better, but it changes who is accountable for the finished layout. In some states the two scopes fall under different license classifications, which is another reason to ask directly. If striping matters to your project, confirm whether it is included in the paving proposal and who is performing it.
