State pavement directory
Distance is a pavement variable in Maine in a way it is not in most of the Northeast. The state is larger than the other five New England states combined, and asphalt plants are concentrated where the population is. A lot in Portland has several suppliers within a short haul; a lot in Machias, Rangeley, or on an island served by ferry may have one, on someone else's schedule, with a haul long enough that the mix temperature at the paver becomes a genuine planning question rather than a formality.
