JJ's sealcoating and striping

JJ's Sealcoating and Striping has carried out asphalt maintenance for more than twenty-five years, working for municipal, commercial and residential clients from Hanover Park, Illinois.

What distinguishes the company is how openly it describes its method, which is unusual for a trade where many sites list services and stop. Preparation comes first: the area is cleared using blowers, wire brooms and string trimmers, on the reasoning that sealer will not bond to a surface that has not been properly cleaned. Cracks are then treated with hot rubber sealant, melted and worked into the opening so water cannot get in and widen the damage.

The sealer itself is applied by hand rather than sprayed. Brushes are worked back and forth across the surface so the material reaches into the pores of the asphalt. Although slower than spraying, and the company presents it as the reason its coats hold up for so long.

Striping is done by machine using traffic paint, covering both re-striping of an existing layout and marking out a new one. Beyond maintenance, the company installs new asphalt for driveways, parking lots and patch repairs, and carries out patching on cracks and potholes before damage reaches the point where a full replacement becomes the only option.
