Parking Lot Striping Contractor Checklist
Updated May 1, 2026
Parking lot striping affects usable parking count, traffic flow, and code compliance. Use this checklist to evaluate striping contractors before a new layout or restriping project.
Layout and code compliance
Confirm the striping layout will meet local code for stall dimensions, drive aisle width, fire lanes, and accessible parking requirements before work begins.
Paint type and durability
Ask whether the contractor uses waterborne, solvent-based, or thermoplastic markings, and how each option affects durability, cost, and dry time in your climate.
Surface preparation
Confirm the surface will be cleaned and old lines removed or properly covered, particularly when a layout is changing rather than simply being refreshed.
Specialty markings
Identify any specialty markings needed, including fire lanes, directional arrows, loading zones, EV parking, or accessible stall symbols, and confirm they are included in the proposal.
